Jennifer Julian's Water is a photographic installation as a meditation on childhood and the emotional abyss.
Using water sounds as metaphors for different levels of emotional intensity, Jennifer collaborates with sound designer Jeff Rackley to explore emotional intensity regarding birth, life and death.
Artist Statement
My work has been about human emotion. I am continually led by the concepts in my head and the feelings in my gut. For this project, I chose water as an integral factor as it has an emotional connotation for me.
This project has evolved from mysterious, dark images of a child floating in water to a complete installation that I hope relays an emotional intensity regarding birth, death and living. Ripples and waves inherent in nature and human nature are explored through sight and sound. Memories from childhood, where our emotions are formed, intensify and subside like the ebb and flow of the tides.
I am reminded that we are all connected, and yet we are all alone.
